Restoring Multiple EBS Forms Sessions Post-JWS Migration

Avatar photoCustomer February 6, 2025 at 11:16 am

After migrating our EBS 12.2 environment to Java Web Start (JWS), we lost the ability for users to run multiple independent Forms sessions simultaneously. They could do this with the old Java Plug-In. How can we restore multiple Forms session support with JWS?

The inability to run multiple Forms sessions after migrating to JWS is a known issue that requires specific patches and configuration settings . To enable Multiple Forms Session Support using Java Web Start, you must consult Oracle Support Document 2188898.1 , . This document outlines the exact required patches (e.g., `29024389:R12.FWK.C`) and necessary user preference settings that must be implemented , .

Is there a specific JRE version required on the client machine for this feature?

Oracle certifies JWS with specific JRE releases . You should refer to Doc ID 2188898.1 to find the minimum JRE release required on the client tier . It is recommended to install the latest certified JRE version, such as JRE 8 Update 211 mentioned in the migration context, to ensure compatibility and access to the newest features like multiple Forms session support .

When regenerating JAR files during the JWS patch cycle using `adadmin`, should I choose the default option?

    • Support February 12, 2025 at 7:49 am

When running `adadmin` after applying the JWS patches, you must explicitly choose to force regeneration of all JAR files . When the system prompts ‘Do you wish to force regeneration of all jar files? [No]’, you must answer ‘Yes’ to ensure a complete and successful migration . After regeneration, the entire `adop` cycle (actualize_all, finalize, cutover, cleanup) must be completed .

After enabling JWS, the downloaded `jnlp` files remain on the client machine. Should they be deleted manually?

    • Support February 13, 2025 at 3:45 am

The JNLP files should generally be deleted automatically by the system . You can refer to Section 6: Browser User Experience and Configuration in Oracle Support Document 2188898.1 for details on how the browser experience and configuration should handle these temporary files .
