Measuring Database Server CPU Speed for EBS Workloads

We need to benchmark our new database server’s CPU speed, especially for workloads involving heavy PL/SQL processing, as many standard reports rely on this. Which Blitz Reports are available for CPU benchmarking?

You can use DBA CPU Benchmark1, DBA CPU Benchmark2, or DBA CPU Benchmark3. Benchmark1 and 2 focus mainly on PL/SQL processing time required to generate the output file from a large row count query. Benchmark3 measures performance for arithmetic calculations.

To ensure the test accurately measures CPU speed and not I/O limitations, what infrastructure configuration must be guaranteed?

To yield meaningful results, you must ensure sufficient SGA memory is assigned so that the entire execution time is spent on CPU and not waiting on I/O. You can confirm this using the DBA SGA Active Session History report.

If I run Benchmark1, which uses a Cartesian product based on FND tables, approximately how many records are generated for the test?

The DBA CPU Benchmark1 report generates an output file of 500,000 out of a total of 561,495 records from a Cartesian product based on EBS standard FND tables.
