EBS logins geolocation tracking with Blitz Report and Excel Bing Maps

Avatar photoCustomer November 21, 2019 at 7:29 am

We need a visual, map-based representation of where our users are logging into Oracle EBS from, specifically targeting suspicious logins. We know Blitz Report can find the IP address and geolocation, but how do we turn that raw data into an actionable visual map?

This is an excellent application of Blitz Report’s visualization capabilities. You start by running a custom Blitz Report designed to find the IP address and inferred geolocation of client logins by querying the relevant EBS tables. This report is functional for Oracle E-Business Suite version 12.2.10 and higher.

Once the report generates the Excel file containing the IP and geographical coordinates, what are the next steps within Excel to create the map visualization?

Because the output is native Excel, you can use built-in visualization features. You integrate the extracted geolocation data directly with a Pivot table and then leverage features like Excel Bing Maps. This combination allows you to transform the raw login data into an easily digestible visual map.

Does this visualization process need to be set up manually every time the report is run, or can it be automated?

The workflow is designed for automation. Once the initial steps were completed to set up the report with the map, the map visualization will be refreshed automatically upon the subsequent report runs. This creates a constantly updated security monitoring dashboard right within the familiar Excel interface.

Is this a feature primarily used by Oracle Apps DBAs, given the data source involves session details?

Yes, this functionality is a powerful addition to the Oracle EBS DBA toolkit. It allows them to quickly execute and save a custom report using the SQL that queries session information, enhancing system security monitoring without having to access the database command line.
