Audience

Relevant for development or supporting consultants and business users that require fast form export to Excel without waiting for the data to be ready.

Introduction

The standard EBS form export is useful for small data volumes, but when you have to export large-volume data such as plan, sales orders, inventory, or purchase data it will lock your screen until the entire export process completes. Often, the export process crashes as the buffers are overloaded with data. In this article, we show you a simple way to output volume data to Excel from any EBS form, but without preventing users from performing other tasks.

Benefits

The reports are able to run in the background allowing users to continue working instead of waiting for the export to finish. This is an excellent time-saving approach, especially when the user has to deal with urgent requests by telephone or email, etc. The Blitz Reports are Excel-based rather than CSV, saving further time in the reformatting of data types, etc.

Once the Zoom toolbar function is enabled, the assigned report will include the data from the field position, for example: if the cursor is in the customer field, this will be automatically populated into the report parameter.

Reports available

There are in excess of 200 Blitz Reports that can be assigned to EBS forms with Blitz Report using this method, covering core financial, HR and supply chain process areas. And, if you have Enterprise Command Center installed then there are an additional 220 standard Oracle reports that can be imported into Blitz Report and assigned in the same way.

Pre-requisites

  1. Download the trial version of Blitz Report
  2. Configure the report to target the required EBS form
  3. Try for yourself on our demonstration platform

Functional setup

Step 1

Using the sales order form as an example, we note the form name by using the Help>About Oracle Applications toolbar function. This reveals the form name as OEXOEORD, take a note of this as you will require in the next step.

Step 2 (optional)

If you would like to pass data from the form such as the sold-to customer, you can use Examine to record the name of the form Block and Field.

Step 3

Open Blitz Report and query the required report from the seeded library and click on the setup button and then the assignments tab to start the form assignment. Simply insert a new include option at the form level and then enter the name of the form per step 1, and if required, enter the block/field details recorded in step 2.

A few examples have been included for Invoice, purchase orders, sales hold, and order details

Step 4

You are now ready to test your report assignment by launching the form. You will note that the Zoom toolbar option is now available (alight) for the user to launch the Blitz Report of their choice.

Step 5

Click into the Zoom button and launch Blitz Reports assigned reports.

Step 6

If you specified the option to take the customer name as input to the report parameter, you will find that it is automatically populated. If not, simply add your criteria and click on the Run button to launch the report.

The Blitz Report runs immediately through concurrent requests (you do not need to register the report in system admin).

The Excel output file is formatted with filters applied to save the EBS user time.

Whilst a business user cannot create reports themselves, they can instead modify the report layout using folder style template functionality and schedule the requests in the normal way.

Summary

Blitz Report report provides rapid report development and is seeded with 200 plus reports. Enginatics have delivered a reporting tool that leverages all of the standard EBS functionality including scheduled concurrent requests, security, and form assignments via the Zoom function. We adopt the EBS user interface to minimize training and allow business users to create and share their own report layout templates.

Blitz Report also supports report import from Discoverer, BI Publisher, and Excel4apps report sources and we will be adding Polaris RWB import source before the end of 2020
