INV Item ABC Assignment Upload assigns items to ABC classes from Excel, changes the class of an item or removes the assignment, the way the ABC Assignment Updates window does. It downloads the ABC assignments of an organization for editing, saves each row, and returns a result report with the outcome of every row.
When to use it
- Move many items to another ABC class after a review of the ABC compile.
- Assign items to an ABC class that the last ABC compile did not include, for example new items.
- Remove items from an ABC assignment group.
Before you start
- You are signed in to a responsibility with access to the inventory organization and to the upload in Blitz Report.
- The ABC group and its classes are set up in the ABC Groups window. Only groups with classes can be chosen.
Choose a template
The default template is Default.
| Template | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Default (default) | Creates, changes and deletes the ABC assignments of items. |
| Assign Items | An empty sheet to assign items to an ABC class of an ABC group. Upload Mode is locked to Create, and the ABC Class and Item filters are hidden. |
Step 1 – Set the parameters
Open INV Item ABC Assignment Upload in Blitz Report, choose the template and set the parameters. They decide which assignments are downloaded.
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Upload Mode | Create gives you an empty sheet. Create, Update (default) also downloads the existing ABC assignments. |
| Organization Code | The inventory organization. Defaults to your current organization and is also the organization of new rows. |
| ABC Group | Restricts the download to the ABC assignment group. Also the group of new rows. |
| ABC Class | Restricts the download to the items assigned to the ABC class. |
| Item | Restricts the download to the item. |
Step 2 – Run to download the Excel file
Click Run. With Create, Update, the file has one row per item and ABC group. Organization Code, Abc Group and Item are read-only on downloaded rows, and Item Description and Abc Class Description are always read-only. With Create, the sheet is empty.
Step 3 – Enter the ABC assignments
Change the class on the downloaded rows, or add rows for new assignments.
- Abc Group – the ABC assignment group. Defaults to the ABC Group parameter.
- Item – an item of the organization. An item can be assigned to any class of the group, also when the ABC compile did not include it.
- Abc Class – a class of the group, listed in the sequence of the group’s classes.
- Delete Assignment – Yes removes the item from the ABC group.
Step 4 – Validate and Save
Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and for values that are not in their lists, marks the rows Valid and saves the file. Correct any rows it flags before uploading.
Step 5 – Upload the file
In Blitz Report click Upload and select the saved file. The upload request processes the rows in order. Each row is saved or rejected on its own, so a rejected row does not affect the other rows.
Step 6 – Review the result report
When the request completes, a result report opens listing every uploaded row with its status and a message, for example ABC assignment created., ABC assignment updated., ABC assignment deleted. or No change., or the reason the row was rejected. The result report shows the values as they were saved in Oracle.
What’s produced
- ABC assignments of items, saved as the ABC Assignment Updates window saves them.
- A row that fails does not affect the other rows.
- A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.
Common questions
Does the upload run the ABC compile?
No. It maintains the item assignments of an existing ABC group. The ABC compile and the ABC groups and classes are set up in Oracle Inventory.
How do I move an item to another class?
Change Abc Class on its downloaded row.
How do I remove an item from the group?
Enter Yes in Delete Assignment on its row.
Where do I see the assignments of a group?
The INV ABC assignments report lists them.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Missing values for required field/s: ABC Class | Abc Class is blank on a row that is not a deletion. | Enter the class, or Yes in Delete Assignment. |
| ABC assignment does not exist. | Delete Assignment is Yes for an item that is not assigned in the ABC group. | Check the item and group, or remove the row. |
| Abc Class is invalid | The class is not a class of the ABC group. | Choose a class from the list of the column. |
