EAM Asset Number Upload creates and updates Oracle Enterprise Asset Management (eAM) asset numbers – the maintainable assets you raise work orders against – in bulk from Excel, via the standard eAM public API. eAM assets are maintenance asset instances (they can optionally be cross-referenced to a Fixed Asset, but this upload does not create Fixed Assets).

When to use it

  • Mass-create new eAM asset numbers for a newly installed or onboarded fleet of equipment.
  • Bulk-load assets after defining their asset-group items, instead of entering them one at a time in the eAM Asset form.
  • Bulk-update asset attributes – description, category, owning department, criticality, WIP accounting class, area, warranty dates, active dates, flags, flexfields.
  • Link existing eAM assets to Fixed Assets in bulk, or disassociate FA links.
  • Attach or maintain equipment item + serial associations across many assets.
  • Standardize the item-instance descriptive flexfield values across a population of assets.

Before you start

  • Blitz Report is installed and you are signed in to a responsibility with access to an EAM-enabled inventory organization.
  • The asset group item already exists in the organization as a serial-controlled eAM asset-group item.
  • Supporting setup exists for any dropdown columns you populate (categories, departments, WIP classes, areas, equipment, property locations, FA assets).

Step 1 – Choose a mode, set the parameters and download

In Blitz Report, open EAM Asset Number Upload, choose an Upload Mode (Create, Update – the default – downloads existing assets to edit; Create gives an empty template), and set the parameters:

ParameterPurpose
Upload ModeCreate or Create, Update. Default is Create, Update.
OrganizationThe EAM-enabled inventory organization.
Asset Number From / To / Asset Group / Asset Category / Asset StatusRestrict which existing assets are downloaded.

Run the upload to download and open the Excel file. Each asset is automatically handled as a create or an update depending on whether the organization + asset number already exists.

Step 2 – Enter the assets

On each row enter the Organization, Asset Number, Asset Group and Asset Serial Number (all required on create), the Description, Asset Category, Owning Department, Criticality, Area, WIP Accounting Class, dates and any equipment, property or FA-link columns.

Step 3 – Validate and Save

Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and runs the upload’s validation, then saves the file. Correct anything it flags before continuing.

Step 4 – Upload and view the result

Back in Blitz Report, click Upload and select your saved file. This submits the Blitz Upload request, which creates or updates each asset. When it finishes, a result report opens showing each row as success or error.

What’s produced

  • Created and updated eAM asset numbers with their attributes and flexfield values.
  • A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.

Common questions

Does this create Fixed Assets?
No. It creates and updates eAM asset numbers (maintenance asset instances). It can optionally link an eAM asset to an existing Fixed Asset, but it does not create Fixed Assets.

How does it know whether to create or update a row?
By Organization + Asset Number. If that asset already exists it updates it; otherwise it creates a new one.

Can I change an asset’s Asset Group or Asset Number after creation?
No. Asset Number is read-only, and Asset Group is fixed once the asset exists.

What’s required to create a new asset?
Organization, Asset Number, Asset Group and Asset Serial Number (plus any fields your eAM setup mandates).

Can I delete an asset with this upload?
No – there is no delete capability; the upload only creates and updates.
