Blitz Report Assignment Upload creates, copies, deletes, enables/disables and edits report assignments from Excel – the records that grant (or explicitly exclude) a Blitz Report to a Site, Application, Request Group, Responsibility, User or Form.
When to use it
- Grant an existing Blitz Report to additional responsibilities, users, applications or request groups.
- Copy seeded application-level assignments to your own custom applications – query the standard assignments, replace the application names, and re-upload.
- Bulk-enable or disable existing assignments.
- Bulk-remove assignments that are no longer needed.
- Add an Exclude assignment to revoke access at a narrower level than a broad Include.
- Configure Form-level parameter value defaulting so a report launched from a form pre-fills parameters.
Before you start
- Blitz Report is installed and you are signed in to a responsibility that can maintain report assignments.
- The target Blitz Report already exists – you cannot assign a non-existent report.
- The assignment target (application, request group, responsibility, user, or form) already exists.
Step 1 – Choose a mode, set the parameters and download
In Blitz Report, open Blitz Report Assignment Upload, choose an Upload Mode (Create for new assignments, or Create, Update to query existing ones for editing), and set the parameters:
| Parameter | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Upload Mode | Create or Create, Update. Default is Create. |
| Create Empty File | Yes opens a completely empty template to type new assignments. |
| Report Name starts with / Report Category / Report Type | Restrict which reports to create assignments for. |
| Assignment Level / Level Value / Created By / dates / Disabled | (Create, Update) Filter which existing assignments are downloaded. |
Run the upload to download and open the Excel file.
Step 2 – Enter the assignments
On each row choose the Report Name, Include Exclude, the Assignment Level (Site / Application / Request Group / Responsibility / User / Form) and the Assignment Value (the target). A Description is required for Request Group, Responsibility and Form levels to disambiguate the target. For Form level you can also map a form parameter’s default value.
Step 3 – Enable, disable or delete (optional)
Set Disabled to Yes to deactivate an assignment (leave it blank to keep it active), or set Delete to Yes to remove a matched assignment.
Step 4 – Validate and Save
Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and runs the upload’s validation, then saves the file. Correct anything it flags before continuing.
Step 5 – Upload and view the result
Back in Blitz Report, click Upload and select your saved file. This submits the Blitz Upload request, which creates, updates, enables/disables or deletes each assignment. When it finishes, a result report opens showing each row as success or error.
What’s produced
- Created, updated, enabled/disabled or deleted report assignments.
- A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.
Common questions
What’s the difference between Create and Create, Update mode?
Create is for entering new assignments (optionally on a fully empty file). Create, Update lets you first query the existing assignments so you can edit, disable, delete or copy them.
I changed an assignment’s target and the Action says “Update”, but a new record appeared. Is that a bug?
No. When the new target doesn’t match an existing assignment, the upload creates a new record even though the Action reads “Update”. This is the designed way to copy assignments to a different level or target.
How do I deactivate an assignment without deleting it?
Set the Disabled column to Yes. Leave it blank to keep the assignment active.
Why is a Description required for some rows?
Request Group, Responsibility and Form assignments require a Description because their value can repeat across applications; the Description disambiguates the exact target.
Can I assign Upload-type reports?
Only if you have the highest (System) Blitz Report access level. Otherwise the row is rejected.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You are not allowed to update assignments for Uploads | The report is an Upload (or Summary) type and your access level is below System. | Have an administrator with System access perform the change, or target a non-Upload report. |
| Request Group / Responsibility / Form assignments require a Description | One of those level rows was left without a Description. | Fill in the Description (pick it from the dropdown) for that level. |
| Form assignment values can only be specified for Form assignment level | A form-value column was entered on a non-Form row. | Clear those columns, or change the Assignment Level to Form. |
| Both the Block and Item fields, or a Constant Value must be entered for Form parameter value defaulting | A Form parameter row has a Parameter Name but no source for its value. | Enter either both Block and Item, or a Constant Value. |
| Record not found | Delete = Yes but no matching assignment exists. | Check the report name, level, level value and Description match an existing assignment. |
