BOM Routing Upload creates, updates and deletes Oracle manufacturing routings – standard, flow and lot-based – with their revisions, operations, operation resources, substitute resources and operation networks, plus common-routing assignments, all from one Excel sheet through the standard routing API.

When to use it

  • Mass-create new standard, flow or lot-based routings for many assemblies.
  • Add or re-sequence operations, or change operation attributes (count point, backflush, yield, dates).
  • Bulk-load or adjust operation resources and substitute resources.
  • Build or maintain routing networks (operation-to-operation transitions) for flow and lot-based routings.
  • Set up common-routing assignments so several items share one master routing.
  • Delete obsolete operations, resources, network links, revisions or whole routings.

Before you start

  • Blitz Report is installed and you are signed in to a Manufacturing or Bills of Material responsibility with access to the inventory organization.
  • The assembly item exists and is BOM-enabled, and the departments, standard operations and resources you reference already exist.
  • For a common-routing assignment, the referenced item’s routing already exists.

Choose a template

Pick the template for the kind of routing you are working with:

TemplateUse it for
Standard Routing (default)Standard (discrete) routings.
Flow RoutingFlow routings (lines and processes).
Lot Based RoutingLot-based (network) routings.
Routing NetworksOperation-to-operation network transitions.
Common Routing AssignmentsAssigning items to a shared (common) routing.
Routing Headers OnlyRouting-header columns only.
All Columns excluding DFFsThe full column set without the descriptive flexfield columns.

Step 1 – Choose a template and mode, set the parameters and download

In Blitz Report, open BOM Routing Upload, choose your template, and set the parameters:

ParameterPurpose
Upload ModeCreate (empty template) or Create, Update (download existing routings). Default is Create.
Routing TypeStandard, Flow or Lot Based.
Organization CodeThe inventory organization.
Item / Item From / Item ToThe assembly item(s) to download.
Show Operations / Show Resources / Show NetworksWhich routing detail to download.

Run the upload to download and open the Excel file. Each routing, operation, resource and network link is automatically handled as a create, update or delete.

Step 2 – Enter the routing and operations

Rows are grouped into one routing by Organization Code, Item and Alternate; the operations repeat the header. On each operation row enter the Operation Seq, the Department, the effectivity dates, and the operation attributes (count point, backflush, yield, and so on).

Step 3 – Enter resources and networks

  • Operation resources – enter the Resource Code, Resource Basis, and either the Usage Rate Or Amount or the Inverse Rate Or Amount (the other is calculated).
  • Substitute resources – mark the row as a substitute and give its substitute and replacement group numbers.
  • Network links (flow and lot-based) – enter the Network To Operation Seq and the Network Transition Type.

Step 4 – Delete (optional)

To remove part of a routing, set the relevant Delete column to Yes – Delete Operation, Delete Resource, Delete Network Link or Delete Revision. To remove a whole routing, set Delete Routing to Yes on the header row.

Step 5 – Validate and Save

Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and runs the upload’s validation, then saves the file. Correct anything it flags before continuing.

Step 6 – Upload and view the result

Back in Blitz Report, click Upload and select your saved file. This submits the Blitz Upload request, which creates, updates and deletes the routings through the routing API. When it finishes, a result report opens showing each row as success or error.

What’s produced

  • Created, updated and deleted routings with their operations, resources and networks.
  • A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.

Common questions

Do I need to set an action?
No. Create, update and delete are detected automatically per entity from the existing data and the relevant Delete column.

How do I delete one operation instead of the whole routing?
Set that row’s specific Delete column (Delete Operation, Delete Resource, Delete Network Link or Delete Revision) to Yes. To delete the whole routing, set Delete Routing to Yes on the header row.

Which usage field do I fill for a resource?
Enter either the Usage Rate Or Amount or the Inverse Rate Or Amount – the other is calculated. If you fill both, the Usage Rate is used.

Can I change a routing’s type on update?
No. The Routing Type and Assembly Type are fixed once the routing exists; changing them is rejected.

Which template should I use?
Use Standard Routing (the default) for discrete routings; pick Flow, Lot Based, Routing Networks, Common Routing Assignments or Routing Headers Only for those specific cases.

Troubleshooting

MessageCauseWhat to do
Routing cannot be deleted – routing does not existDelete Routing is Yes for an item and organization that has no routing.Remove the delete flag, or correct the Item, Organization or Alternate.
Routing Type or Assembly Type cannot be changedAn update row supplies a different routing or assembly type than the existing routing.Restore the original value; create a new routing if a different type is needed.
This routing contains both a common routing assignment and operationsA common routing item is set on a routing that also has operations.Either remove the common assignment or remove the operations.
One or more rows for this routing are in errorA row on the routing failed, so the whole routing is held back.Fix the flagged row(s); the entire routing is processed as a unit.
