INV Category Set Upload creates and updates item category sets from Excel, together with their lists of valid categories, the way the Category Sets window does. It downloads category sets for editing, saves each row with the same checks as the window, and returns a result report with the outcome of every row.
When to use it
- Set up new category sets with their valid categories in one step.
- Add many valid categories to a category set, or remove them.
- Change the description, default category, Controlled At level or assignment controls of category sets.
Before you start
- You are signed in to a responsibility with access to the upload in Blitz Report.
- The flex structure and its categories exist. Category codes are created with the INV Category Upload.
- Category sets with a category hierarchy (Product Information Management catalogs) are maintained in the catalog pages and are not included.
Choose a template
The default template is Default.
| Template | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Default (default) | Creates and updates category sets and their valid categories, and deletes valid categories. |
| Create Category Sets | An empty sheet for new category sets, one row per valid category. Upload Mode is locked to Create and the download filters are hidden. |
Step 1 – Set the parameters
Open INV Category Set Upload in Blitz Report, choose the template and set the parameters. They decide which category sets are downloaded.
| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Upload Mode | Create gives you an empty sheet. Create, Update (default) also downloads the existing category sets with their valid categories. |
| Category Set | Restricts the download to the category set. |
| Flex Structure | Restricts the download to the category sets of the item category flex structure. |
Step 2 – Run to download the Excel file
Click Run. With Create, Update, the file has one row per category set and valid category: a category set without valid categories has one row. The category set columns repeat on every row of the category set. Category Set is read-only on downloaded rows. With Create, the sheet is empty.
Step 3 – Enter the category sets and valid categories
Change the downloaded rows, or add rows for new category sets and valid categories. Repeat the category set values on every row of the category set; a change on any of those rows is saved.
- Category Set – the name. A name that does not exist creates a new category set.
- Description, Flex Structure, Controlled At and Default Category are required. The flex structure can only be changed while the category set has no item assignments and no valid categories.
- Allow Multiple Assignments – Yes allows an item to be assigned to more than one category of the set.
- Enforce Valid Categories – Yes restricts item assignments to the valid categories of the set.
- Valid Category – a category of the flex structure. Add a valid category on a new row of the category set.
- Delete Valid Category – Yes removes the valid category from the set.
Step 4 – Validate and Save
Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and for values that are not in their lists, marks the rows Valid and saves the file. Correct any rows it flags before uploading.
Step 5 – Upload the file
In Blitz Report click Upload and select the saved file. The upload request processes the rows in order. Each row is saved or rejected on its own, so a rejected row leaves nothing behind and does not affect the other rows.
Step 6 – Review the result report
When the request completes, a result report opens listing every uploaded row with its status and a message naming what was created, updated or deleted, for example Category set created. Valid category added., or the reason the row was rejected. The result report shows the values as they were saved in Oracle.
What’s produced
- Category sets and their valid categories, saved as the Category Sets window saves them.
- A row that fails leaves nothing behind and does not affect the other rows.
- A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.
Common questions
Can I delete a category set?
No. The upload removes valid categories from a set, not the set itself.
Can I rename a category set?
No. Category Set is read-only on downloaded rows, and a new name on a new row creates a new category set.
How do I assign items to the categories of a set?
Use the INV Item Upload with its Item Category Set Assignment template.
When can Controlled At or Allow Multiple Assignments be changed?
As in the Category Sets window: Controlled At cannot be changed to Master while items are assigned to the set, and Allow Multiple Assignments cannot be switched off while items are assigned to more than one category of the set, or switched on for a set that is the default category set of a functional area.
Why is my catalog not in the download?
Category sets with a category hierarchy are Product Information Management catalogs and are maintained in the catalog pages.
