INV Manufacturer Upload creates, updates and deletes Oracle Inventory manufacturers – the master list of part manufacturers – including their description and descriptive flexfield attributes, from Excel. It maintains the manufacturer master records; it does not manage manufacturer part numbers.
When to use it
- Load a list of new manufacturers in bulk during implementation or data migration.
- Mass-update manufacturer descriptions or descriptive flexfield attributes.
- Rename manufacturers, with built-in uniqueness checking.
- Delete unused manufacturers (those with no part numbers, approved supplier list entries or other associations).
Before you start
- Blitz Report is installed and you are signed in to a responsibility that can maintain manufacturers.
- Manufacturer names are unique.
- A manufacturer can be deleted only when it has no part numbers, approved supplier list entries or other associations.
Step 1 – Choose a mode, set the parameters and download
In Blitz Report, open INV Manufacturer Upload, choose an Upload Mode (Create, Update is the default and downloads existing manufacturers), and optionally filter by a single manufacturer or a name range. Run the upload to download and open the Excel file. Each row is automatically handled as a create or an update depending on whether the manufacturer already exists.
Step 2 – Enter the manufacturers
On each row enter the Manufacturer name (required) and a Manufacturer Description. Descriptive flexfield values go in the Manufacturer Attribute Category and Attribute columns. The Mfg Part Number Count column is shown for reference – it tells you how many part numbers are defined for a manufacturer.
Step 3 – Delete manufacturers (optional)
To remove a manufacturer, set Delete Manufacturer to Yes on its row. It is removed only if it has no manufacturer part numbers, approved supplier list entries or other associations.
Step 4 – Validate and Save
Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and runs any extra validation the upload defines, then saves the file. Correct anything it flags before continuing.
Step 5 – Upload and view the result
Back in Blitz Report, click Upload and select your saved file. This submits the Blitz Upload request, which creates, updates or deletes each manufacturer. When it finishes, a result report opens showing each row as success or error.
What’s produced
- Created, updated or deleted manufacturers.
- A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.
Common questions
Does this manage manufacturer part numbers?
No. It maintains the manufacturer master record only. It shows a count of related part numbers but does not create or change them.
Which mode do I use to change existing manufacturers?
Create, Update (the default) or Update – both download existing manufacturers so you can edit or delete them. Create gives an empty template for new records only.
How do I delete a manufacturer?
Download it, set Delete Manufacturer to Yes, and upload. It is removed only if it has no part numbers, approved supplier list entries or other associations.
Can I rename a manufacturer?
Yes – change the Manufacturer value on an existing row. The upload rejects the change if the new name already exists.
What does Mfg Part Number Count do?
It is informational only – the number of manufacturer part numbers defined for that manufacturer.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer cannot be deleted – part numbers exist | The manufacturer has associated manufacturer part numbers. | Remove or reassign the part numbers first, or do not delete this manufacturer. |
| Manufacturer cannot be deleted – approved supplier list exists | The manufacturer is referenced on an approved supplier list. | Remove the reference first, then retry the deletion. |
| Manufacturer name already exists | A rename collides with an existing manufacturer name. | Choose a unique new name. |
| Duplicate manufacturer in the upload | The same manufacturer name appears more than once in the file. | Remove the duplicate row. |
| Flexfield value invalid | An attribute category or segment value is invalid or not enabled for the chosen context. | Use the dropdowns; pick a valid attribute category and only fill segments valid for it. |
