INV Item Cross Reference Upload creates, updates and deletes Oracle Inventory item cross references from Excel – the alternative part numbers held against an item, such as customer, supplier or GTIN numbers – together with their descriptive flexfield attributes. It assigns cross references to items; the cross reference types themselves are set up in the Cross Reference Types form.

When to use it

  • Load customer or supplier part numbers in bulk during implementation or data migration.
  • Add a set of cross references for a newly created cross reference type.
  • Mass-update cross reference values or their descriptions.
  • Maintain descriptive flexfield attributes on existing cross references.
  • Remove cross references that are no longer used.

Before you start

  • Blitz Report is installed and you are signed in to a responsibility that can maintain item cross references.
  • The cross reference type already exists and is active – types are created in the Cross Reference Types form, not by this upload.
  • The item exists in the item master organization you enter.
  • An organization-specific cross reference requires the item to be assigned to that organization.

Step 1 – Choose a mode, set the parameters and download

In Blitz Report, open INV Item Cross Reference Upload, choose an Upload Mode (Create, Update is the default and downloads existing cross references), and optionally filter by Item, Cross Reference Type, Cross Reference or Organization Code. Run the upload to download and open the Excel file. Each row is automatically handled as a create or an update depending on whether the cross reference already exists.

Step 2 – Enter the cross references

Identify the item with Item Master Org and Item, choose the Cross Reference Type, and enter the Cross Reference – the alternative part number itself – and optionally a Description. Item Description fills in automatically.

Set Applicable To All Orgs to Yes for a cross reference that applies in every organization, or leave it blank and enter an Org to restrict it to one. Revision and Unit Of Measure apply to GTIN cross reference types only. Descriptive flexfield values go in the Attribute Category and Attribute columns.

Step 3 – Delete cross references (optional)

To remove a cross reference, download it and set Delete Cross Reference to Yes on its row.

Step 4 – Validate and Save

Click Validate and Save. This checks for missing required values and runs the upload’s validation, then saves the file. Correct anything it flags before continuing.

Step 5 – Upload and view the result

Back in Blitz Report, click Upload and select your saved file. This submits the Blitz Upload request, which creates, updates or deletes each cross reference. When it finishes, a result report opens showing each row as success or error.

What’s produced

  • Created, updated or deleted item cross references.
  • A result report listing every row with a status (success or error) and a message.

Common questions

Why do I have to enter an Item Master Org?
Item numbers are unique only within an item master organization, and an instance can have more than one. It tells the upload which item you mean, and it filters the Item, Org, Revision and Unit Of Measure lists.

Does this create cross reference types?
No. It assigns cross references to items using types that already exist. Types are maintained in the Cross Reference Types form.

What is the difference between Applicable To All Orgs and Org?
Applicable To All Orgs makes the cross reference valid in every organization. Leave it blank and enter an Org to restrict it to that organization only – one or the other, never both.

When can I use Revision and Unit Of Measure?
Only with a GTIN cross reference type. Revision additionally requires an Org and cannot be combined with Applicable To All Orgs.

Can I change the cross reference value itself?
Yes – download the row and edit the Cross Reference cell. The row is matched on the stored record, so the value can be changed like any other field.

Why didn’t my update do anything?
If nothing on the row differs from what is stored, the row is reported as unchanged and no change is made.
