Introducing the project implementation and upgrade toolkit

Avatar photoCustomer August 20, 2024 at 3:18 am

We are replacing all legacy reporting tools (Discoverer and many custom BI Publisher reports) as part of a strategic EBS upgrade. Does the Blitz Report Project Implementation and Upgrade Toolkit offer integrated features to specifically handle both Discoverer replacement and BI Publisher conversion?

Yes, the Blitz Report toolkit is comprehensive. Within the category of Operational reports, the tool provides import functions that allow for the direct replacement of both Discoverer and BI Publisher reports. This ensures all legacy reporting assets can be consolidated onto the modern Blitz Report platform.

We have heard Blitz Report offers automated features for Discoverer migration. How complete is this automation process?

Blitz Report features fully automated Discoverer migration, capable of importing worksheets and their underlying metadata. This significantly reduces the manual effort typically required to transition away from Discoverer.

For BI Publisher reports, which often start as complex XML data sets (like the CSTRAIVR XML), how does the conversion process simplify redevelopment?

The tool allows you to quickly convert and fast-track Oracle BI Publisher report development. Developers essentially transfer the core SQL data logic from the XML Data Definition into a Blitz Report, rapidly achieving perfectly formatted Excel output without wrestling with BI Publisher templates.

If our consultants rely on existing SQL scripts developed for the Discoverer or BI Publisher data models, can they directly leverage them in Blitz Report?

    • Support August 27, 2024 at 1:28 am

Yes, consultants can utilize their existing SQL scripts immediately. They simply drop them directly into the Blitz Report form, eliminating the need for registering new concurrent programs and initiating version control automatically.

We need to ensure that external data sources previously used by Discoverer reports are still accessible after migration.

Blitz Report supports reporting across external data sources. Provided you maintain or establish the necessary Oracle Database Gateways or database links (for sources like Vertica, MySQL) , your reports migrating from Discoverer can continue leveraging this cross-database connectivity.

Does the toolkit assist with auditing the data migration steps themselves?

    • Support September 1, 2024 at 5:22 pm

The platform itself aids compliance. All custom report assets created or modified within the toolkit retain full version control with audit comments, providing transparency into the reporting assets used throughout the migration project.
