I understand templates control the layout, but what specifically can I control in terms of the data structure and content presented to the user?

Templates allow you to define the layout and content of the report output. You can select or deselect columns, adjust their display order, and define a sort order and sort priority.

Can a template transform a detail report into a summary report?

Yes, templates are crucial for specifying the level of reporting (detail or summarized). You use the Aggr. (Aggregation) setting to define calculations like average, count, min, max, or sum for specific data columns.

If I want to easily move multiple columns at once, is there a shortcut?

Yes, you can use the Ctrl and Shift keys to select groups of columns (multi-select) and move them simultaneously between the ‘Available Columns’ and ‘Displayed Columns’ lists using the arrow buttons. You can also double-click a column to move it.

You can use the Reset button to recover the initial column layout, or the Hide All button to deselect all currently displayed columns.
