Template Customization and Pivot Table Setup

Avatar photoCustomer May 6, 2022 at 6:46 am

I have created a new template for a financial report and I want to make it the default layout for all users in the system. How do I make a template globally accessible, and who has permission to do this?

To make a template the default layout for all users, you must select the ‘Global Default’ checkbox within the template definition screen . This action is typically restricted to users with Developer access or specifically, those authorized with the ‘Super User’ role within the profile option ‘Blitz Report Template Access’ , . The available sharing levels for templates are Site (all users), Responsibility, and individual User .

I need to set up a pivot table output. What are the four main sections I need to define in the template layout to create the pivot structure, and what data goes into each?

The pivot table section of the template screen is divided into four critical components : 1) Filters are columns used to restrict the overall data displayed in the pivot, often used for high-level entities like Customer or Vendor . 2) Columns define which data points will appear as separate columns in the pivot (e.g., Period or Project) . 3) Rows define the data summary level for each row (the dimension being analyzed) . 4) Values define the numeric data that will be summarized (e.g., Amount) . Note that only columns selected in the ‘Displayed Columns’ list can be used in the Pivot table definition .

My source SQL query sometimes returns duplicate rows due to complex joins. Can the template automatically filter these out without changing the underlying SQL?

Yes, you can suppress duplicate rows directly within the template configuration by checking the ‘Distinct’ option . This flag, when selected, ensures that only unique rows of data are included in the final report output, effectively handling duplicate records resulting from the extraction SQL .

We need to allow certain users (Supervisors) to create templates for their teams, but prevent them from modifying templates created by IT (the Developer role). How do we configure template permissions?

    • Support May 15, 2022 at 10:59 pm

Template permissions are controlled by the profile option ‘Blitz Report Template Access’ . You can set this profile to ‘Private and shared’ to allow supervisors to create both private and shared templates . If you set it to ‘Super User’, those users can create private and shared templates AND modify templates owned by others . The ‘Private only’ setting restricts creation to only templates owned by the user, while ‘No Access’ only allows viewing and usage .

What is the recommended size limit for uploading Excel template files to avoid performance warnings?

    • Support May 17, 2022 at 3:06 pm

The profile option ‘Blitz Report Template Excel Upload Size Limit’ defines the threshold for showing a warning message if a user attempts to upload an Excel template file exceeding that size . The default limit is 5 MB . While larger files can be uploaded, exceeding this limit may trigger the warning due to potential impact on performance.
