Reviving End User Ad-Hoc Reporting: Simple Alternatives to Discoverer’s Drag-and-Drop Functionality

The greatest appeal of Discoverer for our business analysts was the intuitive drag-and-drop interface, allowing them to quickly build ad-hoc reports without needing IT intervention . This self-sufficiency is lost in technical replacements like BI Publisher, which require specialized template knowledge. We are looking for an Oracle Discoverer replacement that minimizes the learning curve and provides a familiar, user-friendly environment so our functional users can continue running customized reports without becoming programmers.

While Blitz Report focuses on SQL efficiency, it minimizes the learning curve by adopting the familiar user interface of standard EBS forms, dramatically simplifying the transition away from Discoverer . This familiarity reduces the training time needed for adoption compared to complex BI platforms .

Even though users may not build the initial SQL, once a report exists, the Blitz Report Column Template feature gives end-users self-service control over the layout, allowing them to hide, show, or re-sequence columns easily .

We often need our reports to include complex parameters, utilizing lists of values (LOVs) drawn from EBS lookups. Do simple SQL-based tools support retaining this intuitive parameter selection logic from Discoverer?

Yes, when utilizing Blitz Report, either for new reports or imported Discoverer reports, the system supports reusable parameters and LOVs that function identically to standard EBS value sets, bridging the gap from the Discoverer experience .

This ability to manage report structure and layout using familiar EBS conventions drastically cuts down on reliance on IT and accelerates your migration timeline for operational EBS reporting .
