Real-time Database Performance Monitoring via SGA ASH

Avatar photoCustomer July 19, 2019 at 10:00 pm

We are troubleshooting a severe but intermittent performance dip right now. We need the fastest possible, real-time snapshot of what active sessions are doing and what they are waiting for. Which report should I immediately run?

Immediately run the DBA SGA Active Session History report. This provides active session history directly from the SGA, offering a real-time view.

How should I analyze the vast amount of session data returned to link the wait events back to the responsible EBS user or form?

We highly recommend using a pivot in Excel for ASH performance analysis, as drag-and-drop analysis is much faster than manual SQL querying. A typical use case is pivoting to analyze which EBS application user waited for how many seconds in which Forms UI.

The report includes a ‘Module Name’ column. How is that derived for EBS users?

The ‘Module Name’ column shows either the translated EBS module display name or, for background sessions, the process name. This facilitates pivoting by application context.
