Quickly create or modify Oracle E-Business Suite BI Publisher based reports

We need to rapidly convert several high-volume BI Publisher reports, specifically complex ones like the ‘All Inventories Value Report’ (CSTRAIVR), into a faster, more manageable Excel format. What are the key steps using Blitz Report to convert and fast-track development away from the BI Publisher framework?

The conversion process for BI Publisher reports like CSTRAIVR is simple and quick, often completed in 5 steps. First, you must identify the data source used by the original BI Publisher report (often ending in `_XML` or similar data definitions). Next, you paste the proven SQL query from this data source directly into a new Blitz Report definition.

After pasting the SQL, how is the actual output generation handled, and how do we manage changes compared to managing complex XSL templates in BI Publisher?

The subsequent step is to modify the report within Blitz Report’s simple interface, eliminating the need for cumbersome XML formatting and XSL templates. Blitz Report handles formatting automatically and delivers native Excel output. Crucially, the fourth step involves testing the query and adding full version control to the new Blitz Report definition.

Version control sounds useful. How is deployment simplified for migrating these converted reports across development, test, and production instances?

The final major step is migration. Reports can be seamlessly migrated from the instance they were developed on to test and production instances. This process is straightforward and avoids the version challenges typically associated with deploying traditional EBS concurrent programs, because the report definition is self-contained and version tracked within the Blitz Report framework.

And are we able to utilize parameters from the old BI Publisher reports in our new Blitz Report definition?

Yes, you can import BI Publisher reports complete with their existing assignments and parameters. This further speeds up the development process by leveraging existing parameter definitions without the administration overheads traditionally required.
