What is the quickest way to bring up the List of Values window for a report parameter?

You have two primary options to display the LOV for any parameter. You can either double click directly into the parameter value field, or you can click on the three LOV dots located on the right side of the parameter field.

Do all parameters require me to select a value from the LOV, or can I sometimes type in a value and use wildcards?

That depends on how the parameter LOV is defined. Some LOVs enforce the selection of one particular value, such as an account number, while others allow matching by wildcards like ‘%’ or ‘_’.

Where is that validation rule controlled, in case I need to check?

The setting is called ‘Validate From List’. If this is checked, validation enforces selection of one record and wildcards are not allowed. If it is unchecked, wildcards are permitted.

Yes, the ‘Filter Before Display’ setting is used for very large LOVs to avoid performance issues. If checked, the user is prompted to enter a partial value before the LOV is displayed, querying a restricted dataset instead of all records.

Are there other settings that affect how the LOV behaves when retrieving values?
