Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.7 upgrade to version 12.2.8

Avatar photoCustomer March 21, 2020 at 10:07 pm

We are preparing to upgrade our Oracle E-Business Suite from 12.2.7 to version 12.2.8. Can you confirm the high-level process and are there any specific maintenance steps related to performance monitoring we should prepare?

The Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.7 upgrade to version 12.2.8 requires careful adherence to the official Oracle documentation for applying the necessary Release Update Pack (RUP) and critical AD/TXK patches. Monitoring resource usage and concurrent requests throughout the ADOP cycle is vital for a smooth transition.

We are concerned about ADOP phases getting stuck, particularly `fs_clone`, as this halts the entire upgrade. How can we diagnose this efficiently if it happens during the maintenance window?

If `adop fs_clone is stuck and hanging for hours` , you must perform diagnostics quickly. Utilize the Blitz Report DBA toolkit to check the configuration of `apps.fnd_nodes` immediately. If no errors appear in the ADOP log, checking OS logs and the database status via AWR reports might reveal the hidden cause.

How can we implement proactive monitoring during the upgrade to alert us if any critical concurrent programs related to post-upgrade processes run long or fail?

Use the Concurrent Request Monitoring and Alert Reporting tool. Configure an alert report filtered by Status (Error; Warning) and Phase (Running, Waiting) with a parameter set for `Running longer than x Minutes` to identify issues with patch application or post-upgrade routines immediately.

We need to perform comprehensive financial data verification post-upgrade. How can Blitz Report assist our financial team?

    • Support March 29, 2020 at 1:22 pm

You can prepare and save pre-upgrade comparison reports using Blitz Report, focusing on complex financial areas like GL Account Analysis and YTD balances. These reports can be quickly rerun post-upgrade, delivering immediate, formatted Excel output for easy data verification and pivot table analysis.

We also need to decommission older Discoverer reports that might rely on features deprecated in R12.2.8.

The upgrade is the perfect time to use Blitz Report’s fully automated Discoverer migration capability. Migrate all essential Discoverer worksheets into Blitz Report ahead of time, ensuring continuous operational reporting post-upgrade.

Finally, we need to verify that all newly applied patches are explicitly flagged as ‘APPLIED’ in the database.

    • Support April 3, 2020 at 11:27 pm

Create a custom Blitz Report leveraging the AD_PATCH.IS_PATCH_APPLIED database function. This allows the DBA to input a list of critical bug numbers and instantly verify their application status across the required EBS application tops.
