Migration to Java Web Start in Oracle EBS 12.2 instance

Avatar photoCustomer November 4, 2023 at 8:38 am

We are experiencing increasing client-side instability when launching EBS Forms, especially on modern operating systems and browsers that no longer support the Java Plug-in. Oracle recommends migrating to Java Web Start (JWS). How critical is this migration for maintaining stable EBS Forms functionality in 12.2?

Migrating from the Java Plug-In to JWS is highly recommended by Oracle for EBS 12.2 customers. This shift is critical because JWS allows EBS forms to run in browsers that have ended support for the Netscape Plug-in Application Programming Interface. Without JWS enabled, users on platforms like Mac OS Big Sur and later will face significant issues accessing Forms applications.

Since Blitz Report runs as a Java form from the standard EBS menus , does the stability of Blitz Report execution depend entirely on the successful migration and enablement of JWS?

Yes, absolutely. Blitz Report relies on the stability of the underlying EBS Forms architecture. If a user reports inability to run Blitz Reports, the first step is often diagnosing client-side issues, such as confirming that JWS is enabled and configured correctly on their workstation.

Are there specific EBS environment variables or configurations that need to be adjusted for the JWS migration in an EBS 12.2 instance?

Yes, the migration involves specific steps to configure JWS in your EBS 12.2 instance. Documentation related to browser user experience and configuration (Section 6) provides details on the environment changes required for a successful transition to JWS.

We need to verify if JWS is currently enabled on our specific system for diagnostic purposes.

You can confirm with your DBA team whether Java Web Start is enabled on your system. If JWS is confirmed as *not* enabled, then the DBA will need to assist with the Java configuration necessary for the Forms applications on the workstation.
