Memory Error during Column Translation Import

Avatar photoCustomer October 26, 2019 at 6:10 am

During the seeded column translations load step, we received ORA-04031: unable to allocate 96 bytes of shared memory, referencing ‘large pool’ and ‘unknown object’. Is this an expected memory demand?

No, this error means your database’s SGA (Shared Global Area), specifically the large pool, is configured too small to handle the resource demands of the initial column translation load. The installation process requires sufficient memory for this operation.

What is the immediate action we should take to complete the installation?

Your DBA must increase the SGA memory allocation. After increasing the memory, you should rerun the installation script. Note that if you are on a test system and do not require the automated column translations feature immediately, this specific error *can* be ignored, but it points to an overall resource constraint.
