Managing Blitz Report Access Roles and Licenses

Avatar photoCustomer May 3, 2024 at 10:36 am

We need to control which users can consume a Blitz Report license and which users have access to the report setup windows (SQL editing). What is the primary profile option controlling this, and what values are available?

The access to Blitz Report functionality and licenses is primarily controlled by the profile option ‘Blitz Report Access’ , . This profile option determines which users can use the features and, by extension, consume a license . The main roles are ‘Developer’ (for users with SQL skills to create and edit reports, who also see the ‘Setup’ button) or ‘System’ (for users who can also create new uploads) , , . Standard users who only run reports typically consume a license without needing a specific ‘Developer’ setting .

If we have a limited number of licenses, how can we assign them manually to specific users or responsibilities to prevent general usage?

To manually control license assignment for a limited pool of licenses, you must remove the ‘Blitz Report Access’ profile option value from the Site level . You then set up the required access role (e.g., ‘Developer’ or ‘User’) specifically for each individual responsibility or user who is allocated a license . The system automatically assigns licenses based on these user-level or responsibility-level profile values .

When we remove the profile value from the Site level, will the Blitz Report menu entry automatically disappear for unauthorized users?

Yes, if you remove the profile option value from the Site level, the Blitz Report menu entry is automatically hidden from the Forms navigation menu for users who do not have a defined value for that profile option . This automated menu entry hiding is handled through the `CUSTOM.pll` . If you wish to hide the menu entry entirely, even from OAF pages, you can run the ‘Blitz Report Update Menu Entries’ concurrent program without a menu entry prompt .

We historically used custom read-only responsibilities for reporting in Discoverer. Should we continue this practice for Blitz Report?

It is generally discouraged to create custom read-only responsibilities solely for running Blitz Reports . Blitz Report is designed to operate within the users’ existing application responsibilities . Running reports in separate responsibilities introduces drawbacks like additional navigation steps, increased maintenance, loss of existing session security (e.g., MOAC/Ledger restrictions), and disables the drill-down functionality from Oracle standard forms .

If I only want to manage the profile option values for a large number of users without accessing the System Profile Values form, is there an alternative tool?

Yes, you can use the Blitz Report Access Upload feature . This upload utility allows you to maintain the access profile option values in bulk, which is useful when managing a larger number of users or when allowing maintenance by a user who typically would not have access to the System Profile Values form .
