Generate PDF of Blitz Report™ output

Avatar photoCustomer December 6, 2019 at 3:09 pm

While Excel output is perfect for day-to-day analysis, our regulatory requirements demand certain reports be archived in a non-editable, static format like PDF. Can Blitz Report, whose primary output is Excel, generate reports directly as PDF files?

Yes, Blitz Report supports the generation of PDF output. This functionality is achieved using the postprocessing capability available within the Blitz Report framework, allowing the conversion of the primary output file type (typically Excel) into a PDF file.

What technical prerequisites or access levels are needed to set up and configure this postprocessing function on the application server?

The setup requires elevated access permissions. The assumption is that the Blitz Report developer responsible for configuration must have Unix and System Administrator access in order to perform the required setup for the postprocessing procedure.

What are the typical setup steps required within the Blitz Report definitions to enable the PDF conversion functionality?

The process involves configuring the postprocessing function itself to target the Excel output file produced by the report and execute the conversion utility. Once configured, the report execution pipeline includes this step, delivering the PDF alongside the Excel output or as the primary output, depending on how you configure the request.

Does this conversion process add significant latency to the overall report run time?

    • Support December 14, 2019 at 3:17 pm

While adding a postprocessing step will naturally extend the run time slightly compared to direct Excel output, Blitz Report maintains reduced processing overhead overall, ensuring performance is incredibly fast for generating the initial data set. The setup to enable the PDF conversion typically takes only a few minutes to complete.

Thank you. This clarifies that PDF archiving is possible, provided we grant the necessary backend OS access for configuration.
