Ensuring Correct Filenames for International Characters in Email

Avatar photoCustomer November 28, 2020 at 12:14 am

Our report names contain multibyte characters, and when emailed, the attachment filenames often appear corrupted. How can I ensure proper delivery of filenames with international characters?

You need to set the profile option ‘Blitz Report Email Attachment Multibyte Filenames’ to ‘Yes’. This ensures email attachment filenames are sent including UTF-8 multibyte characters from the Blitz Report name.

Does this setting work universally across all application server operating systems?

No, the applications operating system must also support multibyte filenames. The default setting is ‘Yes for Linux, No for other OSs e.g. Solaris, AIX’.

If I am experiencing corruption related to multibyte characters, is there an Oracle patch related to this problem?

Yes, reports with special multibyte characters in their name may show an incorrect attachment filename, which is often an Oracle bug related to JavaMail using standard RFC 2231.
