Accelerating Deploying Reports between Instances with Blitz Report Export/Import

Avatar photoCustomer September 20, 2025 at 6:23 pm

We struggle constantly with the complexity and administrative burden of moving custom reports and related metadata reliably across our Oracle EBS environments (DEV, TEST, PROD). Relying on traditional methods like FNDLOAD requires tedious setup and complex command execution, leading to frequent errors and significant delays in our release cycle. We need a modern, streamlined process for Deploying Reports between Instances that simplifies the entire report migration lifecycle, minimizing technical dependency and ensuring all report definitions, parameters, and version histories migrate together accurately.

The Blitz Report framework offers built-in report migration functionality specifically designed to replace traditional complex utilities like FNDLOAD. This is achieved using a straightforward export/import process accessible directly through the Blitz Report forms interface, drastically simplifying the movement of report metadata between EBS instances.

What is the exact output format produced during the export process, and does the subsequent import process guarantee that all dependencies, such as custom parameters and security assignments, are included in that single file?

The Blitz Report Export function generates a single XML file containing the complete report definition, including the SQL query, run-time parameters, and version history. Importing this single XML file into the target instance instantly recreates the report exactly as defined, offering superior lifecycle management compared to manual tracking of setup.

If we modify a report frequently in DEV, how does the system ensure that the correct, latest version is the one migrated to PROD, maintaining the version control details?

The inherent Blitz Report versioning tracks all changes with comments and unique numbers, providing a clear audit path. The export function specifically targets the latest saved definition unless an older version is explicitly requested for transfer, ensuring controlled and accurate report deployment.

Does this process also apply to reports originally converted from Discoverer or BI Publisher that we have enhanced within Blitz Report?

    • Support September 21, 2025 at 4:45 pm

Yes, absolutely. Once any report, whether custom-created or imported from legacy tools like Discoverer or BI Publisher, resides in the Blitz Report setup, the standard XML Export/Import functionality handles its migration seamlessly across all of your EBS instances.
