Oracle Discoverer replacement – importing worksheets into Blitz Report™

We need to plan a complete transition away from Oracle Discoverer. Instead of migrating worksheets individually, we plan to use the mass migration strategy. What steps does Blitz Report offer for automating the import of thousands of Discoverer worksheets?

Blitz Report is designed as a direct Discoverer replacement, and we offer mechanisms for both individual report imports and high-volume migration. The recommended approach involves using the mass import API utility. This utility is designed to handle large-scale worksheet migration efficiently.

Before migrating everything, we must identify reports that are actively used versus stale ones. Can the tool assist with prioritizing the migration based on recent usage statistics?

Yes, proper due diligence is essential. You should first run Discoverer analysis reports to determine which reports require migration. For the mass import utility, you can adjust the suggested mass import script using a parameter, such as modifying the ‘number of historical days’ to ensure you only import reports that were actively run, say, in the past 6 months.

Once migrated, how does this process help the IT team manage the new reporting landscape, considering the lack of Discoverer’s complex administrative layer?

The system streamlines IT management dramatically. All migrated report definitions reside in a version-tracked Blitz Report table. Critically, there are no new concurrent programs to register per report, reducing administrative overhead for the IT teams. The installation itself typically takes only about 20 minutes.

And for the end users, will they lose any flexibility they had in Discoverer for modifying columns or output format?

No, user autonomy is maintained. A business user utilizing Blitz Report can add, reposition, or remove report columns with just a few clicks using the folder style template functionality. This significantly reduces dependence on IT for basic layout adjustments and contributes to faster user adoption since the UI matches EBS Forms.
