Custom Tops Lost After Splicing New Application

Avatar photoCustomer September 12, 2022 at 3:20 am

After splicing the XXEN application, environment variables for our older custom tops (like $XXCUST_TOP) are no longer set, and entries are missing from `$APPL_TOP/admin/topfile.txt`. Why did this occur?

We cannot definitively state the cause, but this often happens when previous custom products were added manually rather than by running `adsplice`. If `adsplice` doesn’t know about them, it may not correctly maintain those entries.

What is the required workaround to restore access to those custom tops?

The workaround is to manually re-enter the custom tops entries back into the `$APPL_TOP/admin/topfile.txt` file. Then, you must rerun AutoConfig to generate the new environment file and ensure the context file is updated correctly.
